The Greene County softball team won two of their three games last week.
On Monday, June 6, the Rams traveled to Perry to face the Jayettes. There were no runs from either team until Greene County scored two in the third inning. Perry tied the game in the fifth inning with two runs of their own. The two teams stayed neck and neck for the entire game, and it took until the 14th inning for the Rams to get ahead, ending the marathon game 10-7.
The Rams had 57 at bats, resulting in six singles and two doubles. On the field, the girls had 42 putouts with only one error. Emma Hoyle pitched for the Rams, with a pitch count of 255, with nine hits, 11 walks and two hit batters.
On Wednesday, the Rams took to the road to take on the Nevada Cubs, picking up another win for the season. The Rams scored one run in the first inning, followed by four in the second. Nevada didn’t score until the sixth inning, adding three runs to the scoreboard. The game went to the Rams 5-3.
Hoyle had a double for the Rams, with singles by Chanlyn Cunningham, Grace Hardaway, Alexa Peters and Olivia Shannon. The Rams had another one-error game, with 22 putouts between them, seven of those from catcher Emma Stream. Hoyle took the pitching job once again, allowing only three hits and three walks, with six strikeouts.
The Rams hosted undefeated Saydel on Friday and were unable to break the Eagles’ winning streak, losing 5-0. There were two hits from Greene County, both singles, one by Peters and the other from Cunningham. No errors happened on the field for the Rams, and Hoyle allowed only four hits, with six walks and two hit batters.
